Position: Visitor Services and Retail Manager


The Stickley Museum seeks a dynamic individual to join our collaborative and creative
team as the visitor services and retail manager. This position manages the museum
shop and ensures a welcoming and positive experience for museum visitors.
The Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, the early 20th century country estate of
Gustav Stickley, is a National Historic Landmark and a non-profit historic house
museum. The museum maintains a busy schedule of weekly tours, educational
programs, and fundraising events year round. An active local historic resource, the site
welcomes visitors from around the world.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee the opening and closing of the Museum and museum shop (Thursday to Sunday and as needed).
  • Manage all day-to-day operations of the museum shop and the annual holiday shop.
  • Develop and maintain annual budget for and inventory of museum shop stock and
  • supplies.
  • Supervise and provide direction and coaching to the visitor services associate.
  • Maintain volunteer docent schedule and conduct guided tours (when needed).
  • Recruit, train, schedule and supervise volunteer shopkeepers.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day issues related to historic buildings and grounds maintenance.
  • Manage shop and admissions promotional activities and discount programs.
  • In coordination with the IT consultant, ensure maintenance of equipment and technology.
  • In coordination with the education manager and, in supervision of the visitor services associate, craft and maintain social media and e-blast plan.
  • Manage various aspects of marketing online and via regular mail.
  • Coordinate rentals of grounds and facilities.

Qualifications

  • Ability and willingness to work on-site full-time Wednesday through Sunday year round as well as some evenings
  • Retail experience required, preferably in a supervisory role
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or prior relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A friendly, calm and authoritative demeanor
  • Self-starter and team player
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with point-of-sale software and Constant Contact preferred
  • Able to bend, squat and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willing and able to travel
  • Background or interest in museums, history, design and/or architecture a plus.

Compensation


This position offers a non-profit salary commensurate with experience, plus a creative
and collaborative work environment, and a benefits package that includes leave
(vacation, holidays and sick leave), medical coverage, and 401k participation after
completion of 1000 work hours (25 full-time work weeks).
