Fotolia 35732318 LJoin us for a day of fun & games for the whole family! Children of all ages are invited to explore and learn about homes of all kinds, including family homes, like the Stickley family's Log House at Craftsman Farms, the homes of many kinds of animals, and the natural world, which is "home" to us all. While focused on family fun, this program will also encourage children to consider concepts that Stickley held dear, like the value of nature and the meaning of home.

Animal Experiences, an entertaining and educational live-animal program will be a special feature of this event, with families invited to reserve a spot for this 30-minute program.  The live-animal program is included with admission but not guaranteed.  Reservations are strongly recommended as space is limited. Fall Family Day Sept 2012 020

We offer a variety of year round programs for children and families, including special children's tours of the Stickley Museum, seasonal Family Days and Holiday Tours, a Craftsman Farms tradition.

In planning our Educational Programs for Children and Families, we use Gustav Stickley's own words to guide us. In an October 1913 article about the origin and growth of the Craftsman Movement in his magazine, The Craftsman, Stickley wrote:

The Craftsman Movement...stands for the right Fall Family Day Sept 2012 072of the children to health and happiness through an education that will develop hands as well as heads; an education that will give them that love and enthusiasm for useful work which is every child’s rightful heritage….”

Our programs are designed to engage children in multi-sensory, hands-on learning and timeless fun.  Like Stickley, our programs for children and families place a high priority on valuing nature, family life, and working with your hands. Families are invited to get involved:  take a children's tour with a flashlight and magnifying glass, practice embroidery and woodworking at the Holiday Open House, paint a pumpkin or dance around the maypole at a Family Day, get your hands dirty, play in the grass, learn about history, and more importantly, make history together.

Fall Family Day

 Saturday, September 21, 2013

fall family day3

Mark your calendars!  Returning for 2013, our Fall Harvest Family Day, will be held on Saturday, September 21.  Celebrate fall with the whole family at our biggest family program of the year!

Last year's Fall Family Day included hayrides, pumpkin painting, and “Square Dancing with Sue,” featuring live music and Family Day favorite Sue Dupre, as our square dance caller. Children of all ages got to try old-fashioned cider pressing and handcrafts such as woodworking, pottery, knitting, and embroidery. Activities like a scavenger hunt around the grounds, the popular Cow Balloon craft, and old-fashioned carnival-style games and races  rounded out our celebration.  Families could picnic on the grounds, enjoy cider, cider doughnuts, and delicious boxed lunches for sale at the Apple Spice Junction booth.
