Farms Afield Fall 2018

The Arts & Crafts Communities of William Lightfoot Price: Arden & Rose Valley

Friday, September 28, 2018

ThunderbirdLodgeColorized-1024x389

Arden, Delaware, and Rose Valley, Pennsylvania, founded in 1900 and 1901 respectively by architect William Lightfoot Price, are Arts & Crafts communities modeled after the utopian English village described by William Morris in “News from Nowhere.” Each town’s plan embraced communal open space and the community motto of “You are welcome hither," encouraging people to interact with their neighbors. Today both communities remain picturesque oases. Rose Valley is a tightly clustered group of homes with hidden lanes and private drives tucked away from the main roads; a true Arts & Crafts hidden treasure!

Save the date! And meet us in Delaware to experience these two charming utopian communities, including visits to the Arden Craft Shop Museum and the iconic Thunderbird Lodge, the studio house of Alice and Charles Stevens, and a stop for lunch. Bring your walking shoes —Arden and Rose Valley are best experienced on foot.
