Description

Little is known of this table scarf except that it descended through Mildred Stickley's family and appears to have been made during or before the family's move to Craftsman Farms. Made of a tightly woven fabric and ornamented with a floral pattern executed in French knots, the quality of the embroidery and charming naiveté of the design suggest it may have been a homemade piece, rather than one professionally executed. Finished at either end with a knotted fringe trim and tasseled ends, the table scarf speaks to the importance of handmade works in the family's home and echoes the regard with which craft was held in Stickley's magazine.
