Description

First appearing in 1912–in the October Craftsman Furnishings for the Home catalog and the following month in The Craftsman–little is known of this lamp other than the somewhat vague description supplied by the advertising copy. The magazine noted this and a related model (no. 57) "are made with simple but decorative pottery standards, with a matt surface and an unevenness of modelling [sic] that makes them particularly pleasing. They vary somewhat in design and are tinted in soft blue-green shades that blend toward the top into a brownish rose."

It is sometimes asserted that the base was made by Fulper Pottery, but there is no evidence to suggest this at the moment. That idea stems from a later lamp (no. 101 D) which is quite similar to model no. 57.

According to the catalog and advertisements, this lamp was originally designed to be sold with a silk-lined wicker shade.
