Although little is known of this table's early history, its turned legs, rubbed black paint, and shaped stretchers are consistent with the turn towards Colonial revival and painted furniture that Stickley began about 1915. Typically thought of as his Chromewald period, the final years of production were more varied and while Chromewald–beech furniture with a painted surface–was heavily promoted, it was a relatively small part of his total production at this time. Oak continued to be used both for the Arts and Crafts pieces that remained in production, but also for a number of revival pieces he manufactured because of its historical precedents. This table falls into the later category with a blend of Jacobean (like the turned legs) and later features (shaped stretchers) typical of late 19th century revival furniture. The center of the table top is constructed of three pieces of wood, which adds a bit of visual interest.
