Candlesticks

Item

Title

Candlesticks

Creator

(Russian)

Date

1900 (ca.)

Medium

Brass (probably)

Description

These candlesticks are similar in scale and design, but not precisely the same as those seen on Stickley's sideboard in the Log House, which had been photographed earlier in his Syracuse home. Based on the amount of Russian brass he was gathering in the first years of the 20th century, and because there are known examples of this sabbath-type candlesticks bearing an imperial Russian stamp, we believe it likely that these are Russian-made and were bought at the same time as some of the other brass pieces he illustrated in The Craftsman and his 1902 Retail Plates.
