Description

Stickley used a pair of portieres on both of the openings from the Living Room to the Dining Room, each of which is in what he called the "wild rose" design. The 1912 Craftsman Furnishings catalog described these portieres as "done on gray-blue Craftsman Canvas," and while they share the same motif as the burnt orange curtains in the Living Room, these do not appear to have the high contrast of those curtains and were likely in the color scheme the catalog described. It is curious, however, that Natalie Curtis mentioned these rooms essentially shared the same color scheme in her 1911 description of the Log House–differentiating only between the carpets–and did not mention the portieres at all.

Some additional indication of the portieres original colors is evident in the 1912 Craftsman Furnishings catalog, which described the appliqué in detail: "The applied band is of bloom linen in changing tones of blue and green, and the couching is done in dull green linen floss. The embroidered petals are in straw color and dull rose, with centers of black and dull gold."
