Description

In many ways these large hall seats are indicative of the peculiar blend of aspiration and reality that marked the Stickley family's residence in the Log House. Always planned as a large Dining Room for a Club House, the seats, along with the oversized sideboard, the custom corner cabinets, and the 50-foot long room itself were built on a scale that was far beyond serving the needs of a seven-member household. While Stickley's dream of a Club House central to a larger school or craft community was never was realized, it is evident than he was planning for its imminent occurrence and furnished the Log House accordingly. These hall seats are amongst the best examples of the relatively few pieces of chestnut furniture made by Stickley.
