Description

Although Stickley’s catalogs featured round tables with gently chaped stretchers as early as 1905, the subtle refinements introduced with this model rank it among the most successful of these endeavors. Whereas related models, like nos. 669 and 626 share the same basic vocabulary—shaped stretchers with a central finial, through tenons, and round top—there are formal differences that add a sense of delicacy and structure to the present example. By reducing the overhang of the top and integrating the legs into the apron and upper surface as a design element, Stickley transformed a simple, obvious form into an appealing table that was both practical and decorative.
