Sheila Fernekes – Tuxedo Necklace
Using an African bead weaving stitch resembling a herringbone pattern, glass beads are individually hand woven around flexible neoprene tubing to create the luxurious drape of this easy-to-wear necklace. As timeless as a tuxedo, this classy combination of gray and subtle mauve stripes is accented with black and white checkerboard to add that dash of panache. The flattering 22″ length necklace is finished with an antique silver toggle clasp. 0.38″ wide.
New Jersey artist Sheila Fernekes creates contemporary art jewelry using ancient Native American and African bead weaving techniques. She weaves and layers each bead one at a time to achieve the interplay of color, pattern and texture that has become her trademark.
