In this signed and numbered print exclusively produced for the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, artist Dorothy Markert depicts a vase of yellow roses placed in the girls’ bedroom of the Log House at Craftsman Farms. This 13.5 x 16″ print is a strictly limited run of 100.

Gustav Stickley, and his wife Eda, moved with their six children into the Log House in 1911. They had one son, Gustav Jr., and five daughters, aged thirteen to twenty-three: Ruth, Marion, Hazel, Mildred and Barbara.

With the recent celebration of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, this print takes on an additional significance. In the early 1900s, yellow roses signified support of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States.

Dorothy J. Markert (1932-2018), NJ-born artist, was a Master Roycroft Artisan, Emeritus, printmaker and instructor primarily known for her silkscreens of stylized flowers in Arts & Crafts pottery, as well as landscapes, winterscapes, architectural prints, pottery, fiber art, stained glass, jewelry and pottery.

Run by Dard Hunter III, the grandson of Arts and Crafts designer and artist William Joseph “Dard” Hunter, Dard Hunter Studios in Chillicothe, Ohio uses only the finest materials to create pieces that stand the test of time. This custom frame is quartersawn white oak, with mortise and tenon joinery. The Signature Finish is a four-step process, the final of which is a hand-rubbed wax, just like was found on Stickley furniture. This gives the frame the patina of an heirloom that will withstand sunlight and wear and provide beauty and enjoyment for years to come.
