“Welcome Glows From Heart and Hearth”

This tile is a Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms exclusive created by Janet Ontko Clay Forms. Featuring an excerpt of a poem from one of five fireplace hoods Gustav Stickley created for the Log House in 1911, this sentiment from the girls’ bedroom — the motto “Sweet is the homecoming at eventide when welcome glows from heart and hearth” — emphasized the importance of family and the type of environment Stickley strove to create for his daughters.

Each tile measures 8 x 4 x 0.75″ and the back is wired for hanging. Every tile varies slightly since they are handmade and glazed.

Janet Ontko (Fresno, CA) is inspired by the simplicity and style of the Craftsman Movement. The honesty of the materials, the look of the clay, the touch of the potter, and the return to the craft tradition compelled Janet to develop her own signature style.
