SUMMARY:Online Lecture with David Cathers
DESCRIPTION:Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 6:30 PM EDT via Zoom\n\nNon-Member Price: $10\nMember Price: FREE\nLecture Description:\nPlease join us on June 11, 2026, for a presentation by author David Cathers about his latest book: Helen Albee and Marion Volk: Arts and Crafts Hooked Rugs from New Hampshire and Maine. Recently published by Turn of the Century Editions, this meticulously researched book sheds needed light on the work of Albee and Volk and establishes their importance as designers and makers. Independent of one another they formed very different rug-making enterprises–Albee’s Abnakee in New Hampshire and Volk’s Sabatos Maine–that blended Arts and Crafts aesthetics with ideals of rural living. Though largely unremembered today, Albee and Volk were well known in the period as their work appeared in journals such as House Beautiful, Country Life in America, and Gustav Stickley’s The Craftsman. One of Volk’s Sabato rugs even won a silver medal at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis. Examples of their work is held in significant collections like the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Yale Art Museum among others.\nClick here to register.\nRegistration is required. Once registered, you will receive an email prior to each session with a link to join.\n
